The Promises
And lo, he proclaimed unto the people, "Every promise shall be fulfilled." Yet the years answered with delay, the ledgers with numbers, and history with unfinished pages. Every unmet pledge became someone else's fault, every missed deadline another two weeks, and every failure a triumph yet to come. Yet the record endured, for history remembereth not what was promised, but what was accomplished. Therefore let these pages preserve not the speeches, but the results. Rest in pain. History will take it from here.

The Promises
And lo, there came forth promises without number, spoken boldly unto the multitudes, saying, "It shall be done quickly." And the people rejoiced, for the promises were tremendous, beautiful, and unlike any promises ever promised before. Yet the years passed, and many remained awaiting their appointed hour.
And he proclaimed, "Mexico shall pay for the wall." Yet the wall was built only in part, and Mexico opened not its treasury. He declared that Obamacare would be repealed and replaced with something far greater, yet the replacement wandered in the wilderness and was seen no more.
And he vowed to end wars within a single day, to erase the nation's debt, to restore prosperity unto every household, to cut the price of energy in twain, and to make all things affordable again. But inflation heeded not the speeches, the debt continued its ascent, and the markets followed their own counsel.
And many asked, "Lord, what became of Infrastructure Week?" Yet no prophet could number its arrivals, for it came often in proclamation, but seldom in fulfillment. Thus every delay became two more weeks, every unfinished work became a future announcement, and every unmet promise was declared the fault of another kingdom.
Yet the faithful proclaimed, "The promise remaineth alive, though its fulfillment tarrieth." And every campaign renewed the covenant, every rally restored the expectation, and every tomorrow became the appointed day.
But history measureth not intentions, nor applause, nor slogans shouted from great arenas. It measureth what was promised beside what was delivered, and keepeth a faithful account of both.
For campaigns may promise.
Crowds may believe.
Years may pass.
Yet the public record remembereth all things.
