And lo, he proclaimed unto the people, "No man hath ever been treated so unfairly." Yet the judges answered with rulings, the juries with verdicts, and the clerks with ever more filings. For from the days of his businesses unto the days of his presidency, and even beyond, the courts knew his name well, numbering more than four thousand legal matters wherein he appeared as plaintiff, defendant, or witness.

And there came forth judgments against him. Two juries found him liable in the matter of E. Jean Carroll, awarding unto her eighty-eight and three-tenths million dollars in damages, and the higher courts did not cast those judgments aside. Many other rulings followed, sanctions were imposed, appeals were filed, and lawyers multiplied as the loaves and fishes.

Yet the faithful proclaimed, "Behold! Every verdict is a witch hunt, every judge corrupt, every jury deceived, and every courtroom but another campaign rally." Thus did every defeat become persecution, and every appeal become tomorrow's promised victory.

But the docket keepeth no campaign promises. It remembereth only the filings, the testimony, the rulings, the judgments, and the final orders. Therefore let these pages preserve not the excuses, but the record itself. For headlines fade, rallies end, and slogans perish, but the court record endureth forever.
